A Bridge Too Far?

Our  site inspectors recently investigated a timber laminated footbridge using this impressive piece of kit.

Do you want to know what this machine was doing on a bridge somewhere in the countryside recently?

The structural condition of a footbridge in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty had been causing concern, and some temporary scaffolding was erected to ensure the safety of pedestrians short-term.  TFT Woodexperts carried out an inspection of the bridge using the latest state-of-the-art technology.

The Underbridge Unit, a telescopic bridge inspection vehicle, is the largest of its kind in the world and cost half a million pounds. Hired by the local council who are responsible for roads and bridges, the vehicle, one of only five in the country and featuring the latest engineering technology, helped TFT's  consultants to inspect the structure in only two days, instead of weeks, keeping disruption to a minimum in the busy holiday season.
