"Bowled over" by students' success

A presentation and lunch was held at Leicestershire County Cricket Club on Monday 31st July 2017 to honour 8 students from James Latham plc, who have recently qualified to Level 4 Certificate in Wood Science and Timber Technology.

Hosted by Managing Director Chris Sutton and HR Director Piers Latham, it was also attended by John Park, Chairman of the Board of the Wood Technology Society of the IOM3, who presented the certificates to the successful candidates.

Also present at the event was Jan Antonovics, Commercial Manager at TFT Woodexperts Ltd, whose principal consultant, Jim Coulson, conducted the training over an 18-month period. Jan complimented the students, saying that it was their desire to learn and progress to the next level which had led to the launch of the new Level 4 Certificate in Wood Science and Timber Technology at Timber Expo in October 2015.

John Park welcomed the newly-qualified students and invited them to apply for professional membership – TIMMM – of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining. He said they were “some of the unique few in the UK with such a qualification who can now call themselves a wood specialist” and commented that “their employer is very cognisant of the value of that knowledge they now possess”

Piers Latham also remarked on this, saying “It is important to have the best-trained staff, to be able to employ new technologies, which also leads to better job satisfaction, morale and motivation”.
