In mid-September, two of our Associate Consultants – Ian Ashworth and Johnny Fleming – attended a very special meeting of the London Hardwood Club (LHC). Woodexperts have been members of the LHC for many years – and Jim Coulson, our Director, has twice given talks at LHC meetings.
But on this occasion, the LHC lunch was followed by a tour round the Golden Hinde, which is kept on the South Bank of the Thames, near London Bridge.
This impressive wooden ship is a faithful replica of Sir Francis Drake’s original Golden Hind, in which he sailed around the world, in 1580 – the first Englishman to do so. Johnny was particularly delighted to see it, as he is a qualified sailor himself and has also built his own wooden boat – but not as big as this one!
